Disappearing Act...

Last of the African prides?

"Until the lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter"

African Proverb

Once symbols of strength and freedom, lions are increasingly threatened by habitat loss, human conflict and the illegal trade in their bones, sought as substitutes for tiger bones in traditional Asian medicine.

40% of the world's wildlife has been wiped out in the last 50 years. With around 20 000 African lions left in the wild, lions are now officially classified as 'vulnerable'. LIons could be extinct in the wild as soon as 2050.

As an artist, I find it deeply disturbing that these magnificent animals are reduced to commodities. Through my work, I hope to challenge this cruelty and remind us that a living creature is worth far more than the parts someone can sell.

A lion is not a collection of body parts. It is a life worth protecting.
